Smart Locks

Currently, key and lock management requires extensive resources in several administrations in the City of Stockholm.

Key management causes extra transports and increases travel time for the employees in geriatric care. This time should rather be spent with the elderly. For the Stockholm Water and Waste Administration Office, extensive key management makes the accessibility to properties difficult, as well as hinders efficient planning of resources.

The locks and lock systems in the City of Stockholm needs to be modernised. The project aims to improve the working environment, reducing the number of transports and, above all, providing a better and safer community service to the residents in the city. A smart lock can be controlled wirelessly and safely give access for the right person, at the right time, for the right location.

The project will develop technical solutions needed for smart locks to work and be implemented in the community services in the city of Stockholm. As a first step of implementation, smart locks will be introduced in the home care services for elderly in the district administration of Enskede-Årsta-Vantör.

An example of inefficient key management. The picture illustrates how the Stockholm Water and Waste Administration Office received their keys from a dismissed contractor.
