The project Smart and connected lighting will modernize and make the outdoor lighting of Stockholm more efficient.

Smart lighting solutions include a modern control and management system with connected lampposts equipped with smart functionalities. When sensors are in use, information about the environment, air quality and traffic flow can be collected. By using LED, energy consumption will be reduced by up to 50%.

In the future, smart lighting solutions could also support other vital functions of society, such as traffic management, provide environmental data and support emergency response. One example is where road lighting supports emergency response: By amplifying the blue light from emergency vehicles when the vehicle approaches.

The project will carry out a pilot of smart and connected lighting in the area of Spånga-Tensta. The pilot will evaluate aspects such as change in energy consumption, perceived safety among citizens and how digitalization will affect the administrations of the City of Stockholm.
